Brian Rice

Saxophone

Brian graduated from McGill University with a Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting in 2015 (studying with Alain Cazes), and a Bachelor of Music Education (major in jazz saxophone) in 1996. He performed with McGill Jazz Ensemble 1 and is heard on their recording “Something Personal.” Brian also holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario, and a Chef Training Certificate from George Brown College. 

Brian has taught in the Toronto public school system for 23 years.  As a department head and curriculum leader, he has led many students and ensembles to success including three Provincial Championship titles in the Kiwanis Music Festival. Schools under his direction have collaborated with The University of Toronto, Ohio State University, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer Michael Colgrass.  Brian is currently the director of String Orchestras at North Toronto Collegiate Institute.
